Mystery school
The Edge is a mystery school, where you can pass through five different initiation levels.
The School is a mystery school in the tradition of the old mystery schools of ancient and medieval times. This means that one of the guiding principles is the search for the Mystery - in nature, in ourselves, in life - that mystery which is beyond the visible world of form. Communion with the Mystery, alongside rigorous self-investigation, is one of the foundations on which the School rests.
The School is also an initiation school. There is no fixed curriculum a student has to follow. Instead, the students move through a process of consecutive initiations, each initiation being the admission to a new degree and into a new community after successfully passing a test. The degrees the School has to offer are:
Apprentice This is actually a degree one has to acquire before one entering into the school community, and it can be acquired in the introduction course.
Autonomous Individual This degree gains you admission to the extended family community;
Spiritual Warrio This degree gains you admission to the ‘sangha’, the spiritual community;
Man/Woman This degree gains you admission to the brotherhood / sisterhood of men/women;
Journeyman This degree gains you admission to the fellowship of leaders.
The above degrees are on offer in the School in the first year. There is also the degree of Master-Leader, but that can be acquired only after years of practice and after presenting a “masterpiece”. Your Master’s Piece can be further theoretical study or a practical project. This Master’s Degree is granted during the summer school.
Each initiation occurs only after the student feels he is ready for it and has passed a test (for instance: a solitary retreat, a presentation, a process).This implies that each student has their own pace, and that it is not certain that all the available degrees will be completed in the first year. The School will continue to support the development process after the first year and grant degrees at a later point as the student is ready. For every degree that is granted a certificate is given.
As said earlier there is no fixed curriculum. The School offers opportunities in the form of meetings, workshops, coaching, a library, Internet access, facilities and so on. The learning and growth process is basically an individual one, although so much of the activity is group oriented. Even the social skills that are learned are, in essence, individual skills when you come to think about it.
